Last summer, who would have know that just four months from that beautiful late afternoon day, I'd be sitting at home, casted in an unfortunately 'christian, christmassy-themed' device, ruminating on possibly funny things I may say on The Mark Johnson Show this Monday, December 20th.  WHO??? (ok, not me, for one).

Wrap-Up

Well, that went pretty well, I think. (My show on Nov. 6th) - My makeup didn't run during some special sweating I managed to keep up for the entire show ---- No one tried to mount the stage and take me down (I worry about these things) - and only one Diet Coke exploded while sipping. All in all, not Half Bad. Next, I've got a little light dusting to do, and then the Monkey House on Dec. 12th. November has gotten a BAD rap. I can live with it. this time.

HALF BAD

Oh, I changed the name of my new solo show - It was 'The Martha Tormey Show' . Even the tickets say 'The Martha Tormey Show' on them- but I got increasingly concerned that that name had a somewhat cheesy-variety-show-type-feel to it that I just wasn't going to be able to live up to. Guests, zany dance numbers, prizes, a suprise visit from Liza.... I worried. So - new name - old tickets. All set.

All set. Not really. Not really set at all. People ask me, "Are you 'all ready?!" If I was, I'd do the set this morning in my living room with a full house consisting of Jane (only half dressed) and the resident six-year old who would prefer Curious George to me or Liza or a half dressed Jane to any show from me.

That Black Door

Wednesday, July 14th - 8:30pm - The Black Door Bistro - Montpelier.

I know I know. it's killing me that the late-June event I planned for my living room got cancelled by my girlfriend. I had snacks and beverages and chairs and a microphone and EVERYTHING! But she got wind of it (I was sure we had discussed it) late and informed me that, "Jesus, Martha !!!! What were you thinking???? That's the night of the Real Housewives of New York Reunion Part 3!!!!!" Thank Christ SOMEBODY was on top of that....Whewww. I'd have had no problem pulling the plug on my self, but can you imagine if one or more of you THOUGHT you could stay and watch???? CRAZY SH*T.

So...my next show is OUT OF TOWN - or RIGHT IN TOWN if you live in Montpelier - Quit your whining about driving there - it's SUMMER and the drive is beautiful! And besides, the food at the Black Door is delicious! You can sit outside, dine leisurely, and then come inside and laugh and laugh. It's no Bethanny and Jill (reality tv reference) but I can only do so much. Hope you can make it. I'm traveling a bit these days....The kind people of Minneapolis enjoyed my humor. I hope you will too. And if you don't, well, buy me a beverage and we can discuss your feelings.

Vermont Comedy Divas - next show!!!!!!!!!

Well! We've got a swell show lined up for this Saturday, March 20th. 8:30pm at Higher Ground. If you've never been to one of our shows at HG - it goes sort of like this - you come with a bunch of friends who (like you) have "never been to this Higher Ground place" - go to dinner first - downtown if you like or Moe's if you prefer to be heckled before a comedy show -"Welcome to Moe's" - park in the expansive parking lot that says, I've arrived! -remember to thank your designated driver - "Patti - this is so great - I hate driving around and around looking for a place when I go to the Flynn..." - Come inside the warm, friendly hustle and bustle - look around and see that your kids and their annoying pals are NOT here ("Thank God for that, Patti! Right?") get a seat, no- get a drink - then a seat - and ENJOY 4 women who are justlikeyou/notatalllike you/justlikeyourcousinJuli who really does make every damn family holiday palatable.

It's an idea. Then again, you could take a bus by yourself, stand at the back with no beverage and blog about how you much prefer FLYNN events. Your pick. Just be there.

Vermont Comedy Club - -

You don't have to be a member to attend this show (on Sat. March 6th) - at Higher Grounds, but I think you'll get free water if you are...Some guys I know (and like) have put together a very nice website - and are producing a 'hilarious' lineup of comics - and calling it The Vermont Comedy Club at Higher Ground. I'm one of the comics on the 6th. Some of the dick humor at HG leaves me wanting too much alcohol, or, if I can't get the bartender's eye, I just head for the door. These guys are not "like that" - they have no menopause jokes, however, and they wouldn't know a pair of Isis capris if they walked into them, but they're funny - they're men, and I like them. Avi Waring does too - and she'll be performing as well...Come see us - Nathan Hartswick, John Lyons and Chad Smith as we all take part in the inauguration of 'The Club' - M.

Hi! well, it's been a while - so long that we've got a new Comedy Diva ! - While I was recovering from the last show, a new Diva moved in -- Tracie Spencer - it was time we had a blonde in the group. That's what it's all about - I'm just as superficial as a couple months back - nothing's changed except that I'm performing twice PRIOR to the next Diva show --- so - I guess I'll have my outfit down by then, if not my material.

Well, it was a first - and a fine first it was - We started in Waitsfield (where the bartender Jerry bet me he was older than me - I won) ---then on to Positive Pie in Montpelier - ...then I took a short night off to perform for the incoming freshman at UVM (special, special night - call me - it's worth it--) and then back onto the tour ---- to the fine Richmond On the Rise Bakery -- we then ended the tour last night at a teenytiney venue entitled 1/2 Lounge in Burlington --- It was fun - it was funny and...it's time for a break ---

Oh, the Green Mountain Comedy Festival went very well, thanks for asking. We were sold out at the Flynnspace --- such a swell room --- and prior to that, Kathleen Kanz and I sat down to have a little chat with Jane Lindholm of VPR's Vermont Edition.....you can hear it -- IN IT'S ENTIRETY -

Green Mountain Comedy Festival 

It's a BIG NIGHT of standup comedy - with.... Nathan Hartswick, Josie Leavitt, Peirre (the Beast) Vachon, Tracie Spencer, John Lyons, 

Dustin Bruley, Lindsay Going,  Mike Robideau, and ME, Martha Tormey.....The show is the brilliant brainchild of KATHLEEN KANZ, a fine comic and producer from the Montpelier Region. Kathleen's produced shows at The Black Door Bistro, The Monkey House in Winooski, and has a great eye for new (and old) comics. The Festival will take place on Saturday, May 16th at the Flynnspace in Burlington.

another photo shoot

Jane and I broke the law (I know, AGAIN) and drove her car down onto the bikepath to haul the equipment necessary to have a successful photo shoot for ... for ... publicity. The results were mixed. For some reason, I thought the "wet look" had come back and poured water from an old coke bottle on my head every 5 minutes. Other than that, I had my typical 4-minute makeup routine going on (I love LASH BLAST). Jane thought that putting my makeup on in the car AND changing my shirt on the railroad tracks were two events that really could've happened in the privacy of our home but she and I just don't always see things the same way. Here are a few of the results. My 14 year old niece Sophie had the Jonas Brothers scanned onto her cake--- (Ok, I had Shaws scan them onto her cake) and although she liked the results, if only I had had these pix for that fine birthday event......alas.
